Safely Remove Hardware icon missing?

So you're a stickler for removing your USB drive properly.

Say you want to remove your USB drive. You go to the bottom-right of the screen to do the right stickler thing, and that damn icon's not there.
Aiyo, how?

Here's a cheat to get the menu:

  1. Copy this line - C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll
  2. Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt
  3. R-click > Paste
  4. Enter

You'll get the familiar menu to Stop your USB drive. As a bonus, you'll also get that damn icon back. Wahey!

The stickler within is relieved. To the other stickler (the one that asks "why"), my apologies - I have no idea why this happens.

PS - As a bonus: sometimes you wanna remove your USB drive and it says "no you can't" but you can't figure out why. The solution is Unlocker (I think they're all the same), which is super handy for releasing everything that's locking your USB drive. The why, is because Windows can be real dumbass.

Undilah - an ad banned by the govt

No idea why they banned it. Great job, Pete Teo.

Go get registered and go vote the coming election.

We get the govt we deserve; so make ourselves better so we deserve better.
